ALICEBOT ANIMATRONICS PROJECT
|
INTRO
This document gives you step by step instructions on how to instantly plug-n-play an animatronics' deer head to your Text to Speech Chatbot.

Me, (Mrs. Monica Peters) and Buck, August 13, 2005 . Buck is an animatronics talking deer head that is motion activated, lip-synchs, and sings songs. I plug Buck into my chatbot, so he speaks Mohawk and other Endangered Languages. Videos of my Animatronics Chatbots will be found online at AliceBot.org and Monigarr.com I am a big fan of Alicebot, http://www.alicebot.org . You can certainly adapt these instructions for any of your current chatbots. PandoraBots.com is one of the easiest and fastest ways for anyone to run a chatbot.

YOUR REQUIREMENTS:
1. Computer with Keyboard, Speaker, and Aux. input is pictured Here:

2. A working AliceBot with Text to Speech running on your computer. You can use any TTS Chatbot. More info is found later in this document.
3. Animatronics Talking Head:
- Buck the Talking Deer Head. Cost about $99.99. Store Locations and More Info Online at: http://www.gemmy.com

- You can also use any Animatronics that lip synchs and has an Aux. jack.
4. Hammer, Nails, Solid Wall above your computer, to hang your Talking Deer Head on. I removed the horns from my talking Buck, as shown below.
5. Electrical Outlet close to where you will be hanging Buck.
6. A pack of your favorite Bubble Gum. It helps me to think and can come in handy for quickly hanging things on the wall and such.
7. Some friends that will cheer you and your chatbot on. This is much more fun if someone is around to see you gleefully giggling with your new animatronics buddy.

Fire up your chatbot and make sure you can hear its responses.
- PandoraBots.com provides you with a simple and fast way to run your own TTS chatbots. http://www.PandoraBots.com
- AliceBot.org ( http://www.alicebot.org ) provides one of my personal favorites; ProgramD. ProgramD lets you run your own chatbots on your own web server. If you want some simple TTS codes for your chatbots webpage, you can find some in the book titled: Build Your Own Army of Web Bots within 24 Hours by Monica Lamb.
- Once your chatbot is running and you have verified that it is responding to you with Text to Speech responses, it is time for you to plug in your animatronics. You should be able to HEAR your chatbots responses.

Hang up your trophy buck and make sure it is working correctly.
- Pull Buck out of its Box. I removed my Buck's Horns, because my chatbot in this demo has a Mohawk Language Female Voice and Buck does care about his image. My husband argued for Buck, stating that any respectable Buck would not appreciate being looked upon as a femme Buck or a femme bot. I do not wish to disrespect my plastic Buck friend, so mine is now a respectable Mohawk talking Doe.
- Hammer a nail into the wall where you wish to hang Buck.
- Be sure there is an electrical outlet close to where you hang Buck.
- Hang Buck on your Wall and Plug him into the electrical outlet.
- Use the microphone that comes with Buck to test him out and have some fun.

Plug Buck into your Chatbot and start chatting.
- A long aux. wire is included with Buck. Both ends of this cord are the same and look like the photo below.

- Plug one end of the wire into the Aux. on the right side of Buck.

- Plug the other end of the wire into the Aux. outlet in your pc. It is usually outlined with Green.

- Use your computer and say hello to your chatbot from its webpage.
- Voila, Buck should be lip synching, talking, and moving as your chatbot responds with speech, to your text input. You can find videos of me talking with my animatronics chatbots online at Alicebot.org and Monigarr.com.
- If you are anything like me, you are now giggling with glee as you have a meaningful conversation with Buck about his friends in the forest.

This document would not be complete without saying thanks to my husband for buying Buck for me and having blind faith in my ability to make it talk Mohawk.
I must also thank Alicebot.org for sharing it's alicebot technology and supporting a technology community that is helping so many people to realize their own goals and dreams. Back to Top
If your Buck is not lip synching or moving with your Chatbot's responses, do the following:
Check to make sure that the Aux. wire is plugged into the correct outlet in your PC
Check to make sure the Aux. wire is plugged into the Aux. at the side of Buck.
Make sure you can HEAR the responses coming from your chatbot on your pc. If you can not hear anything, it is likely that Buck will not hear anything either.
Final Resort; send me an email ( Monigarr.com or Monigarr@Yahoo.com ) with details of your issue. I might actually find a few minutes to answer you :)
